Dr. tonia - The communication coach

Dr. Tonia is a wife, mother, author, educator, international speaker, and founder of Phanor Consulting. She grew up in Southern California to two loving parents. She has three older brothers.  As a teenager she realized she loved to speak and her effectiveness as a communicator was a key to opening doors and achieving success. Her passion for speech communication fueled her pursuit of a dual B.A. degree in Speech Communication and Political Science from Pepperdine University. Before entering college, Tonia was an international exchange student in Japan, while in college she continued learning about various cultures as a study abroad student in Italy. After college, she decided it was time to leave Southern California and went on to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Speech Communication from the University of Georgia. She also completed a Ph.D. in Communication at Georgia State University. 

 Dr. Tonia has taught Public Speaking, Intercultural Communication, Business and Professional Communication, and Voice and Diction for various universities over the past 20 years.  In 2005, the demand for communication training, beyond academia, prompted her to begin a consulting company that empowers professionals to attain new heights by improving their communication skills. Today she is the founder of Phanor Consulting, with her husband Tiery Phanor. They work with individuals who are leaders in business, media, and entertainment to improve their communication skills.

In 2007, Dr. Tonia began hosting the “Expressively Speaking Radio Show” on WATB 1420AM. In 2008, Tonia began television taping as one of the host for the “Women of Destiny” show which aired on AIBTV network. The “Women of Destiny” show empowered women in every area of their lives. 

Tonia’s first book, Changing Lanes: was completed in 2005, which helps answer the question, “What am I supposed to do with my life?” has been a blast.  Her latest book THE ONE is also highly acclaimed. She is currently working on a new book, LIFE GIVER.

Dr. Tonia pursued a degree in political science and speech to one day be a voice to the voiceless. She discovered that not only could she be a voice as a speaker but more importantly help others to discover their voice and speak for themselves.
